After Quarantine Chronicles (https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/02/21/quarantine-chronicles-part-1/), Tanzania Tales (https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/02/17/tanzania-tales-part-1/), Zanzibar Dreams (https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/03/22/zanzibar-dreams-part-1-meet-me-in-zanzibar/, and Cancun (with a hurricane!), it was time to get back to Casa de Coco, the quirky cottage where Lockdown Loretta and I nested during our divorces and the pandemic.
I brought the Rogue (Scottish singer) to join us, Three’s Company style, after our 14 days in Mexico (see that post above).
Divorce and Casa de Coco
Divorce proceedings were exceptionally brutal during this time, even though I “surrendered” while in Mexico and gave up the fight. Three years separation, plus a year and a half of a divorce during the pandemic was destroying me. Our little Casa de Coco trio antics and adventures were a source of joy.
One highlight was helping to host a resident’s elderly father’s first get together with friends since the pandemic. The tears and delight of the senior citizens able to sit outside and share a meal and conversation warmed all of our hearts.
Loretta, the Rogue, and I enjoyed all the simple pleasures from fresh strawberries at Farmers Market to outdoor dining finally allowed. Music, always music in Casa de Coco. Laughter. Friendship.
L.A.
The Rogue and I made one trip to Los Angeles, exploring Hollywood and Venice Beach, still surreal with all of the restrictions.

World Series 2020 – outdoors on monitors, Casa de Coco outdoor little gatherings, solo dance parties (why not?), beach walks. Tried to organize one of the first indoor live music events (that got squashed, but A for effort).

Halloween
Sunshine, outdoor dining, music, more music. And then there was Halloween!! I gathered a prop from Casa de Coco (the red tulle skirt) and became a little Devil (the Divorce Devil – appropriate!). So much fun was had. October closed out with the Rogue playing his guitar on the front porch.
Simple pleasures emerging out of very tough times.
