Summer in the City, NYC 2023

Where to Live?

8 weeks in the Big Apple while the Rogue takes an acting class and I channel my inner Carrie Bradshaw for Summer in the City. I had visions of getting one pad for the whole time, but it’s so difficult. Expensive, awful and/or fake places. So, started at the Tribeca Sheraton for five nights which was glorious. Rooftop terrace with nightly viewing of the New York skyline.

Today moved to the Financial District to a Residence Inn to at least have a mini kitchen. We’ll see how much we use it as the number of convenient food options in a one block radius are so tempting, and happy hours are in abundance.

Enjoying meeting people from the female Colombian driver to the Nepalese waiter at a sushi restaurant, a young Bosnian server at a local pub, and a recently arrived young Irish girl waiting tables. Truly the melting pot, and all so friendly.

The weather has been fantastic. Post pandemic there are endless sidewalk cafes that I don’t think were here earlier. Hitting 10,000, 15,000 steps a day easy just walking and exploring. Joined Planet Fitness which was a good shout as it’s all over the city.

Nomad Treasures

The nomad life has its challenges like “Moving Day” yet again today, gathering suitcases and bags, shoving them in the elevator, out to the street and into a vehicle. Settling in again in a new place. Get out my constants: My positivity stones, calendar, angel from Rome, world from Daughter, journal from sister. Books. “Home” is as simple as a comfy bed and pillows.

Upcoming Blog Posts

This summer I’ll continue filling out the blog with the adventures from the last two plus years. I finished the dreaded Second Chapter Divorce section (what a relief to be done reliving that!). I have clear headings now: Second Chapters (including Divorce: In the Thick of It, Post Divorce,; Quarantine Chronicles, Casa de Coco…), Nomad Life (I’ll add some tidbits to that section), and my favorite part Travel Adventures (Tanzania Tales and Zanzibar Dreams finished, Mexico in the works, and upcoming Costa Rica, Road Trip Across America, Turks & Caicos, U.K.& Ireland, Dominican Republic & Panama, France & Italy, Bahamas & Jamaica, lots of California, more U.K., Cannes, and now New York!

Come along for the journey. Hope to inspire you all in some small manner!

Update June 2024 – Hard to believe I started this NYC adventure a year ago! I’m now deeply into three months UK and Europe. Nothing inspires and motivates me more than exploring our world, reading and writing in new places. While in London, I took two weeks and visited my favorite spots: Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin and Belfast (four new blog posts). Then I went to the Cannes Film festival in France and am currently in Switzerland, a first for me. Posts to come!

2025 update – Five Years a Nomad. I want to go back to NYC! I look back at that period as a special time.
