Mexico – The Cabo Affair (Part 2)

San Jose de los Cabos colors and a heart

Part Two of the Three Months living in Mexico with the Rogue in the middle of the Pandemic, and just after my divorce finalized. Part 1: https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/06/23/mexico-the-cabo-affair-part-1/

Cabo

Loving the life in our San Jose de los Cabos apartment. Routine. Gym. Beach walks. Hanging out at Vidanta resort pool across the street. Cooking. Walking into the Old Town. Art nights. Bought a Mexican Divorce ring that a local designer made for me. Enjoyed exquisite Acre restaurant and farm property (peacocks!).

Quick Trip Back “Home”

Mid February I had to fly back alone to officially move out of Casa de Coco. Rogue alone back in Mexico, left to his own devices.

Strange to dip in and out of my Mexico life. Putting my home town life entirely into storage. A bittersweet moment with Ex who now officially owns the Family Home. I had left so many possessions behind. I went over to divide and pack up our wedding china, crystal, etc. We lit the wedding candle from over twenty years ago, and drank a bottle of champagne out of our crystal flutes. More boxes for storage.

Saw friends and family briefly again before returning to Mexico and the Rogue.

Rogue and I had to find our groove again. He was intent on doing his own thing, so I dabbled with Hinge. Unfortunate week long experiment with disappointing dates with ex-pats in Mexico.

One brought a friend (!!) and was double the size of his profile pic. I enjoyed my oceanside seafood extravaganza (which I had to pay for). Adios. Another didn’t get past a video chat whereby the dude proudly showed off his “cupping” marks on his flabby torso.

The grand finale was a pilot who bragged about both the mansion he was building in Mexico and his sexual exploits. Gave me flashbacks to when I was a young teacher and the hot student teacher asked me out. That fellow took me back to his place and popped in a VHS of “Hollywood Hot Tubs 2” to show off his acting prowess in a sex scene. First and last date! But I digress… Suffice it to say, that was the end of my dating exploits. I decided companionship with the Rogue was enough.

From the FaceBook posts:

Since I lost my journal (horror!) I found these FaceBook posts:

March 12, 2021: “Hola mis amigos y familia! Saturday greetings from lovely Mexico. I found my “Quarantine Chronicles” which I kept daily for the first three months of the craziness, before I got distracted with Casa de Coco antics, my Africa blog, and life in general.

(See post threads in: https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/02/21/quarantine-chronicles-part-1/ https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/03/22/zanzibar-dreams-part-1-meet-me-in-zanzibar/ https://secondchapternomad.blog/2023/02/17/tanzania-tales-part-1/ )

During this past year I have so enjoyed seeing all of your faces, if not in person, then on social media platforms, FaceTime, etc. Keep posting! Meanwhile, I will continue to share my adventures, now as a Nomad: “A person who does not stay long in the same place, a Wanderer.”

This is a writer’s dream!  Living life to write about it. An “empty nester’s” indulgence. If not now, when? Stay safe, stay well, and Viva la Vida as best you can.”

March 20, 2021 If the pandemic has taught me one thing, it’s that with Wifi, a computer and a phone, your office can be anywhere. And it can double as your gym! Zoom meetings, and calls around the globe (Australia, L.A., U.K., Ireland)… Mexico works fantastico!  Santa Maria beach has some of the best snorkeling I’ve ever experienced. Swam literally in the middle of schools of tropical fish, with neon colors in every direction. Oh, and the whale show once again. Viva la vida.

Adventures with Jerry & Jill

Later March 2021 Parental figures, and Canadian “snow birds” Jerry and Jill who own an apartment next to ours, took us under their wings and on a number of excursions/field trips. They are a wonderful example of continuing to live life and experience different cultures and adventures at any stage of life. We went to numerous snorkeling beaches, and one grand driving expedition into the interior to see a river with natural whirlpools to soak in.

A delight to have hometown friends come to Cabo. Familiar faces such a joy.

To be continued in Part 3!
