If you want to find books on divorce for yourself, or for a loved one, here are my top picks to heal from heartbreak, betrayal, loss, and to rediscover yourself. Some of these are simply full of great advice. Others feel like commiserating with a close friend. Whatever you’re needing, dive on in, and find a companion through the power of a book.
POWER OF BOOKS

DIVORCE
My divorce was finalized five years ago. The three agonizing years of separation, followed by a year and a half of divorce proceedings culminating in the pandemic were tortuous. I have found solace and comfort in books throughout the process. I have been a digital nomad the past five years with books as a steady companion.
I love anything about Cheryl Strayed who often speaks of reinvention. Kimberly Harrington’s dark humor suited my mood at the time (these two in my Summer in the City phase in NYC 2023). I’m currently reading Mel Robbins’, “The Let Them Theory”. It is so empowering about all aspects of life.
I pulled some of my favorites out of storage (my only “home” as a nomad) for this blog post. I can read them over and over.

BOOKS IN STORAGE
“Super Better” has wonderful strategies to dig yourself out of a dark hole. “It’s Called a Breakup Because it’s Broken” was like a much needed slap in the face. Reality! “Build the Life You Want” is inspirational. If I’ve saved these books in storage, it’s because I will read them again and again.

“The Four Agreements” and “Meditations for Mortals” are not about divorce, but they are great for getting your mind right. Rosie Green’s “How to Heal a Broken Heart” is specifically about divorce. I now follow her on social media, and feel like a have a kindred spirit.
AUDIO BOOKS

Three powerful books I listened to on Audible. Maggie Smith is a treasure. Her very personal memoir on her divorce, “You Could Make This Place Beautiful” is brave and relatable. “Leave a Cheater, Gain a Life,” say no more! Nora Ephron’s “Heartburn” is a semi-autobiographical novel on a cheating spouse and divorce.
A FEW MORE

Vicki Stark’s “Runaway Husbands” was another relatable, healing book. “We All Worry Now What?” is a great book about moving on from fear and anxiety, and finding your purpose.
I would love to know what books you’ve found helpful for divorce, breakups, heartbreak, and recovery. Leave a note in the comments.
Here’s to a fresh start, moving on, and finding peace and happiness.
