Post Divorce: Three Months in Mexico

2020 closed out with the divorce finalizing on Christmas Eve. While a massive relief, this legal nightmare coupled with the pandemic, kicked my ass physically, financially, mentally and emotionally. Signing the divorce papers meant officially giving up the family home of over 20 years, where I raised my kids, and poured my heart into my family. (See previous post below.)

Having just survived (barely) the first holidays, thankfully in my Airbnb Casa de Coco, (while my now grown kids stayed in their childhood rooms in the house with their dad, while I felt like the outsider of my former life), I was adrift and directionless.

Divorce Finalized

The U.K. was going back into another lockdown in the beginning of January 2021, and The Rogue’s ninety days was up in America. We went back and forth on whether or not he’d go home. We finally agreed to carry on, and thus began what would come to be almost three years and counting of traveling together under these unconventional circumstances.

First stop, where it all started with Hurricane Delta in Cancun in October 2020… Mexico! (See separate post below).

Next stop: La Paz and Cabo January 2020!

We ended up living three months in La Paz and Cabo. The majority in San Jose de los Cabos in an amazing cost efficient apartment. Mexico was still following Covid rules, but much more relaxed. Most restaurants are open air, and thus open, with gyms available. A normal life.

Well, except for the little run ins with cartel members, and bulls blocking the apartment gate. The bulls were scarier to be fair. (In upcoming post).

Settled into a new domestic routine, with writing, beach walks, gym, shopping for groceries, cooking (the Rogue always cooks). Healing for mind and body.

After the divorce, with a little space to breathe, I decided I was going to write my own life, flipping the script. Not be the scorned woman, a victim, a pathetic divorcee as I first believed I was. I was going to follow my mantra: Live to write, write to live. And I was starting now. In Mexico.

La Paz

Moments in La Paz – a photo journal below. Got a gorgeous apartment. The city was eerily desolate. Explored on foot, enjoying the freedom, the colors, the sunshine in January.
